Act 1 Presentation and feedback

FEEDBACK FROM ACT 1 PRESENTATION

Go down the gigs and busking route and see where that takes you..

Place research is basically Psycho Geography, you don't learn a lot about mental health or anxiety..

Posters are good, use them to possibly get engagement or visualise outcomes of busking interactions.

Use music as an act of design…

what is the process of songwriting that you can do to link to peoples anxieties!

How do people want people.. Objects to direct peoples ideas… the way people interact with things affects how i sing and play music

Script to turn into song people can point out different emphasis points

Sing covers of peoples favourite song and add their own lyrics

Slide 1 One of the things i was looking at was ‘what and where are the positive aspects of mental illness did an Interview with mark, as i want to have a series of testimonies to guide my designing..in detail testimony about his struggles with anxiety and depression, very honest!  Positive things in mental health , connections made, learned more about himself, how to dig deep, empathy for other people in the same predicament.  spiritual! didn't get to discuss anxiety visualisation but will in future. a great subject to keep involved with my project because of his experience and willingness to talk openly. CRIT : in future will give him something to interact with to bring him into the project more directly.       Slide 2 looking at ways of visualising mental health issues (now specifically anxiety) and making them tangible and addressable separate from ones self. starting at a personal scale leading to society scale. inspiration from the Anxiety Box Paul Ford. Compassion through virtual reality. avatars of the voices people hear in their head. First attempt was to graphically visualise my anxieties and have them staring back at me throughout the day. was slightly effective as it made them look ridiculous and not real. good for people to look at their issues from afar. Putting them in the context and seeing the bigger picture…  CRIT: posters were too external want to try attaching things to me to represent my anxiety. Wear them on my sleeve       Slide 3 Cultural Probe With Anna Take photos in good and bad places with figure record sound and write down feelings. Aiming to experiment with emotion visualisation. I created a cultural probe in an attempt to externalise some emotions in a soft way, Called it ‘Place Research’ To make it less explicate that i was looking at emotion and mental health..Anna liked that it made her actually think about how she feels more, felt connected to ‘figure’ They make the process of reflection more enjoyable and novelty..      Slide 4 Cultural probe v2 I put the probe into a box, mood cards to fill for each place, also coloured circles to photograph figure with. Haven’t has a chance to chat to Fanny yet. Colours add another visual element and really force you to think about how you feel. mood scale to give quantifiable data to possibly work with..Gives little snapshots of your mood and feeling at one time, can look back and really remember how i felt.  Plan to collate all the photos and data and try and visually map it in some way.. CRIT: Obvious discussion point is that you can feel different in places at different times.. Plan to focus more on anxiety situations than places..I think it could be difficult but interesting to try and capture situations in this way. wanna get out into the real world with it. Slide 5 Making anxiety into a tangible entity that can be addressed and considered by the person who is experiencing it and other people in society. Looking at anxieties that are shared by a larger group, finding testimonies and stories that cross over using them to drive design.Looking to move the project into a bigger scale looking at the institute for precarious consciousness . Society is to blame for our anxieties. i want to look at expressing the public secret of anxiety. EXPOSE THE PUBLIC SECRET IN PUBLIC I plan to do a public intervention to collect anxieties… a white board infront of my busking pitch for people to write down their anxieties.. Then i can write a song using the words that have been written! Also maybe using Sofar Session to get people to share their anxieties
